I found pictures of Steinbach individual pieces found in 2017 and 2019. The PDF article about these finds with photos is "bullmineral.cz/paper/download/245/fulltext" The pictures of these weathered pieces do not look like today's MPOD.

My first thought was it looks like a Pallasite, but I also recall personally holding/seeing a large Gujba individual that also looked somewhat like a Pallasite. I could see a Steinbach individual being just as gnarly looking too. When I think of Steinbach I always think of reddish-brown pyroxene that it is known for. Maybe that is what should be checked first. Are any reddish-brown crystals evident on the exterior?

This sample looks also to me more like a piece of PAL from Krasnojarsk than from Steinbach. Maybe Walter switched the pieces ?

That's a pallasite. Crystals visible in the second photo are far too large and yellow to be Steinbach. I think too large and angular for Krasnojarsk. If it's a historic institutional mix-up, the most likely candidate is probably Imilac, but it could be something else (Admire?). Given the rarity of older published pallasites, it could probably be figured out analytically.

Thank you all! I am glad you like it. And John, I am glad you have a good place for it, I would be delighted to sell it to you. :-)

Another pedigree with honorable provenance(s). I have just the right place for it. Thank you, Anne.

Wow! My little Steinbach looks like a tiny dwarf (1.3 gr) when compared to that specimen from the unforgettable Walter & Niki Zeitschel!

Incredible. A giant piece of an early historical German fall. Cudos, Anne.
