103 grams. 104 x 54 x 42 mm.   Desert Glass

Found in the area of the red marker below.

Matthias writes:
Highly translucent Libyan Desert Glass (LDG), formed to a tool - or kind of weapon - in prehistoric time, most probably neolithic.

This is one of the larger prehistoric tools made of LDG I know. Elongated and quite elegant shape which lies perfectly in the hand. Broader and thicker at the top, deceasing from there and finally leading to a very sharp tip.

At the surface manifold traces of treatment are visible - please note especially the central vertical ridge - or spine - from which the treatment processes goes sideways.

One can only admire the sensitivity, the sense for the material and for proportions which enabled those people about 10 thousand years ago to produce artifacts which are at the same time highly esthetic and perfect to use.

Absolutely agreed, Anne, thank you. Thank you, Twink, too. Well, John, it's not too late (as in the case of Moldavites). But once it will happen to LDG, too. Hm, the [not] Beethoven rollver, I must confess that - I'm baffled : -)

Due to your mpod (and others') LDG submissions, I now regrettably realize that I missed out on this avenue of collecting. Very interesting indeed. By the way Matthias, that [not] beethoven rollover still catches my eye. Thank you..

Beautiful LDG in so many ways, the glass itself, the color, the shape. Whoever shaped it was a master. Those prehistoric people are greatly under-estimated.
