A keris or kris made from this meteorite.   Iron, ungrouped

TKW 500 kg. Fall not observed. Found 1797, Indonesia.

Paladino writes:
Indonesian kris. Tests carried out at the Bern Museum indicate that the blade is forged with a small part of ferro-nickel, coming from the Prambanan meteorite .

The story, dear Paladino, we want the story : - ) In any case, what I did learn in fact: when I'd get killed by a Kris with a little help of curve no. 10, the murderer would be a person of extremely high standing - a solace.

I read that this type of Kris was forged for people in high places. The kris can have 3 curves on the blade, up to 11 curves on the blade. The more curves the blade has, the more important the owner was. My kris has 9 curves

I visited the British Museum in London just last week and saw an Inuit lance made from narwhal ivory tusk with an iron meteorite head from the Cape York meteorite. Apparently the Inuit hammered the meteorite with stones to make knives, harpoons and other tools.

Whatever story you know of, would be interesting to read. Especially if this is the Kris made from the secondary unknown mass of Prambanan, that Kublai Khan's soldiers found during their invasion of Java in 1293, to which they forged this beauty and presented him. My eyes are also rolling. Paladino, very interesting and its true past will always be a mystery. Thank you.

I certainly agree with you Matthias, and I wish there was such a publication but I don't think it exist. Do you remember a year or so ago I was insisting that prehistoric iron artifacts could be made of meteoritic iron? I was so glad when the curator of the Museum of Bern finally decided to test some artifacts in his museum with an XRF, and found an arrowhead that was indeed meteoritic. But I am positive there are more if only curators of other museums would check. With an XRF it is easy!

Could this story be told? Ancient artifacts made of meteorite iron - fascinating subject. The Kris, Cape York tools, Gibeon and Toluca tools, very early Egyptian objects ... Not really meteoritical, but related: LDG tools. Does there exist a publication dedicated exclusively to this subject? I have no idea. Would be utmost interestig.

Utmost interesting, Paladino. It's easy to get the info that the old Indonesian Kris were forged ot of meteorite iron. But I never saw one "in person". Until today. Thank you.
